Welcome to the Unofficial Online
Homeport of Battleship New Jersey

This website debuted in the Summer of 1999, shortly before the Battleship's final voyage from Bremerton, WA to Camden, NJ. I started volunteering onboard in the Spring of 2001, and over the next 13 years I posted hundreds of photos chronicling efforts to restore and maintain the ship. For the last 10 years I've continued to volunteer but have posted very few photos because the software program I used to update this site was discontinued. This left me without a way to make regular updates, and as a result this site has suffered. In retirement I'm going to attempt a major upgrade to this site, so, starting in September of 2024 it will be moving into drydock for a serious overhaul. During the overhaul I wanted visitors to still have access to key sections of the site, so direct links to those sections are provided below. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to send me an e-mail.

Ships History - Features information on the history of the Battleship during her four periods in commission. It includes awards and decorations she earned, and a table of Iowa Class Battleship facts and figures.

Final Voyage - Features photos, journal entries, and news articles from the Battleship's final voyage home. It also includes some great photos of her final transit of the Panama Canal in October 1999.

Photo Gallery - Features photos of the Battleship's arrival in Camden, NJ on Veteran's Day 1999, photos of her Grand Opening as a museum on October 14, 2001, and hundreds of restoration photos from volunteer days up until 2014.

The Jerseyman - Features archived issues of the The Jerseyman from January 2002 through the Fall of 2014. These issues were written by ships volunteers Tom Helvig and Rich Thrash and contain Battleship related content.

Ships Log - Features this website's Ships Log where visitors posted their comments, the first comment is from August 1999, the last one is from January 2015. There are some great stories posted in this log by former crewmembers.

USS Des Moines - On July 5, 2006, I had the chance to visit USS Des Moines in search of items we could use on the Battleship. Shortly after this visit she departed Philadelphia to be scrapped, this section features some great photos from my day onboard.

Air and Space Museum - Shortly after the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum annex) opened in 2003 I visited and took a bunch of photos of the treasures to be found there. I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Official BB-62 Website - If you visited this site looking for the official website for the Battleship New Jersey (BB-62) Museum and Memorial, this link will take you there.

Official SSN-796 Website - If you visited this site looking for the official website for the new USS New Jersey (SSN-796), a Virginia class fast-attack submarine, this link will take you there.
