Today
was somewhat of a milestone for me, it was my 100th volunteer work day
onboard the ship, and this is the 75th set of photos I've posted here
online! It's hard to believe I've made the drive from Virginia 100
times, I've got to move closer to the ship! On the Brass Team's "To Do
List" today was a return visit to the Anchor Windlass Area to put
the shine back in there again. It's hard to believe that
it's been almost a year since we finished cleaning up down there, time flies when you're having fun! Not much else
exciting to report about today's visit, just another day of polishing
brass on Big J! Below are a few photos taken today.

Main
Damage Control Compartment, just off Broadway. |

Another
shot inside Main Damage Control. Hey where did that OD Green
helmet liner come from?? It made this ole Army guy feel right at
home!! |
 |
Control
wheels inside the Anchor Windlass Area, which
received a little special attention today from the Brass Team. |
 |
One
of two large braking units that control movement of the anchor chains. |
 |
AFFF2,
located on Broadway near Engine Room #1. I think this
area was used to regulate the flow of fire fighting chemicals to
the various Engine and Fire rooms along Broadway. |
 |
Watertight
Door (WTD) on Deck 2 leading forward to some of the
crews berthing spaces. Nothing special about it, just caught my
eye. |
 |
A
firing mechanism for one of the 16-inch guns in Turret #3.
It was recently cleaned up by a member of the Brass Team
and is now on display in a vise inside Turret #3. |
