Digital Photos  -  September 14, 1999  -  Day 3

Picture #8

For the first morning since we departed from Bremerton 46
hours ago, the skies have turned to a low, overcast gray. USS New Jersey's own battleship gray, which hid her from easy recognition through many high-seas engagements, blends in neatly with today's background.  Presently, she is about 50 miles due West of the Columbia River, separating the states of Washington and Oregon.

Picture #9

One of the west coast albacore tuna fishing fleet boats comes alongside the USS New Jersey this afternoon to admire her stature, 55 miles off Oregon's coast.

Picture #10

Two fishing boats pass behind "The Big J" after a close-up inspection.  They are part of dozens of independent albacore tuna boats fishing today near her trackline.
